Homecoming Sporting Events
Written by KWUStudentMedia on October 9, 2018
One of the best times of the year is finally here… homecoming. For athletes, this day gets taken to a whole new level. This is the time of year where former KWU athletes come back and get to see what our current squads have to offer. This is going to be your quick and brief schedule to make sure you can get out and support all of your Coyote athletes over Homecoming Weekend.
Friday, October 5th:
Women’s Soccer vs York College at 7 PM
The Coyotes come into homecoming weekend on a five game unbeaten run which includes a 2-1 win over McPherson College this past Wednesday night. Michelle Pena and Demi Imbriani scored the goals for the Coyotes after going down 1-0 early in the match. The Coyotes have yet to ever lose to McPherson College after putting on a dominate display outshooting the Bulldogs 31-6. This Friday the Yotes take on York College (7-4, 2-3KCAC) at the Graves Family Sporting Complex and look to avenge a 1-0 loss last season.
Saturday, October 6th:
Men’s Soccer vs York College at 12 PM
Saturday’s homecoming sporting events kick off at noon when the Coyotes take on York College (7-3, 3-2 KCAC.) Wednesday’s contest against McPherson was cancelled so the team comes into the contest with a three game winning streak. The last time to team played was last Saturday against Bethany where the Yotes came out on top 3-1 with goals from Tim Doherty, Diego Rodriguez, and Jose Escobedo. Last year, the Coyotes beat York 2-1.
Volleyball vs McPherson College at 1 PM
One of the biggest matches on campus this weekend will happen in Mabee Arena when the volleyball team takes on 22 McPherson College (20-1, 5-0 KCAC.) The volleyball is on fire lately as they have won nine straight matches, including the past five being 3-0 results. Last time out the Coyotes defeated Bethany College 3-0 for the second time on the season, to sweep the Smoky Hill Showdown. Earlier this season the team lost to Mcpherson 3-1 in the KCAC Pre-season tournament.
Football vs University of Saint Mary at 5 PM
The Coyotes football team has been off to a flying start, and thanks to the quick start, the team is now 11th in the latest NAIA Coaches Poll. This past week, the team traveled south to take on Bethany in the Smoky Hill Showdown and won 70-24. This year the Coyotes are off to a 5-0 (4-0 KCAC) record while averaging an astonishing 61.4 points per game this season and only allowing 12.4. K-dub’s potent offense is led by Johnny Feauto who is averaging 281.2 yards a game, thrown for 20 touchdowns, and has only thrown one interception. Demarco Prewitt has rushed 120 times for a total of 800 yards with 13 touchdowns and was recently named KCAC Offensive Player of the Week. The Coyotes won last year’s contest 43-10.
