Johnny Rottens Hamburger Bar and Weinery

åKWUStudentMedia | KWU Student Media The storefront for Johnny Rottens is deceptively simple, given what awaits customers who step inside.

From the outside, Salina’s newest burger and hot dog eatery seems fairly unambitious. But once inside, just a glance around the bedecked walls and huge bar, promises an entirely different kind of experience. And that experience is delivered once you start examining the menu.

Johnny Rottens is a bespoke burger and dog affair. You can order standard sandwiches and appetizers, but the real story lies in opting for a BYOB/BYOD (Build Your Own Burger or Dog) experience. With a range of meat selections, that run from a standard house blend of ground beef, to one with more buffalo in the mix, each burger becomes an endless spectacle of possibilities.

Standard burger with American cheese, lettuce, onion, pickle, and tomato, served on a perfectly warmed pretzel bun with a dill spear.

A standard burger, topped with American cheese, lettuce, onion, tomato and pickle, comes served inside the bun of your choice – in this instance, it was a pretzel roll. Served with a knife, the burger cuts cleanly in half, revealing crisp and fresh ingredients complementing the perfectly cooked meat and melted cheese.

A New York Dog comes served with the perfect amount of kraut, sautéed onions, and just enough rich, thick, spicy brown mustard to simultaneously fill you up and leave you wanting even more.

Side fries. Easily enough for two.

A single order of side fries easily handles two sets of hands, leaving you free to share one of their Boozy Shake selections, such as the Nutty Caramel, made with Crown Royal, vanilla Whiskey, Amaretto, vanilla ice cream and salted caramel.

Locally owned and operated by Salinan Rusty Leister, Johnny Rottens is a great addition to the downtown area, and one of our top picks of where to enjoy a delicious, tasty lunch or dinner.
