5 Creative Everyday Workouts for Quarantine

By: Spencer Keane

With everything being shut down, including the vast majority of workout locations, gyms, and even parks, it can be a real struggle to figure out a way to get your daily steps in. However it is important to find ways to stay in shape, especially during times like this when many are stuck at home for weeks on end. Without the ability to go and workout at a gym, here are some simple ways to make sure you stay in shape, and be a little creative.

  1. Walk your dog (or cat I guess)- Walking your dog is a great way to get outside and get some fresh air while also making sure your pup stays in good health and gets his daily workout as well. They will also have fun walking with you.
  2. Stair stepping remastered- If you have stairs in your house then you basically have an elliptical machine at your disposal. Walking or running up and down your stairs for 30 minutes a day is a great way to make sure your body stays in shape without needing any equipment.
  3. Cleanup your exercise routine- Cleaning your house is a great way to break a good sweat. Walking around picking things up, mopping the floor, or vacuuming a carpet is a less effective but still suitable way to stay active while being productive as well.
  4. Be handy- If you have access to tools and enjoy building things you can actually build your own workout material. You can make simple deadlift weights from as little as a few 2×4 boards and some screws. This will allow you to carry these back and forth and get a makeshift farmers carry in.
  5. Race a car- Going out for a daily jog is fun but try mixing it up a bit. Adding in a burst of sprints can help increase muscle mass inside the fast twitch muscles in your legs. Next time you’re out on a jog try sprinting for a short distance every once in a while when a car goes by.

These are some pretty far fetched ways to get a workout in if you are struggling during quarantine. Additional workouts include carrying 5 gallon jugs back and forth and squatting a 2×4 with some gallon jugs on each side. Just try to stay active, even if that means something as simple as yoga. Find some creativity and challenge yourself to create some new ways to exercise and stay healthy during quarantine.
