Picking Up an Old Hobby

Written by on May 13, 2020

Being in quarantine has had its struggles, but with those struggles comes new opportunities that I might not have had otherwise. Throughout my life, I have always been drawn to a camera. I think there is something special about capturing a moment in time and being able to share it with others. Over the years, I have gathered quite the portfolio of stunning nature scenes from the various National Parks and countries I have visited.

So since I have been in quarantine for over a month now, I have had a lot of time to pick up some hobbies that I had before my life got so busy with athletics and school. My family recently moved to Virginia, and since I had to leave campus early, I have been spending the final weeks of my sophomore semester in a forest.  I have lived in California and Texas, and while they both have their distinct characteristics, I have never felt surrounded by nature as I do here in Virginia.

When I go for walks or bike rides around the local lake, I forget that I am only thirty miles from Washington DC because everything is just so vibrant with life. The area that I live in is built for being able to walk, run, or bike almost anywhere with the paths cutting into the forest. Since I have been quarantined at home, whenever I get the chance to go out, I make sure to bring my phone with me to capture any moments I want to remember. All of the photos shown here were taken on my phone’s camera, which is how I take all of my photos because I can not afford to buy an expensive camera.

I kind of enjoy only needing my phone to capture these moments because its small enough to fit in my pocket, and I don’t have to worry as much about damaging it. With all this free time, I figured it was a good of a time as any to capture scenes that I enjoyed and share them with you. Hopefully, there ill be more to come from this as there is soo much to explore in Virginia and DC. In the upcoming weeks, some businesses will be opening up back to the public, and I hope that means museums will begin to open back up. DC has such a rich history, and I can not wait to explore it and capture the beauty of it
