Multicultural Student Spotlight: Polynesians on the KWU Campus

It’s no secret that when classes are in session on the KWU campus, the multicultural population of the entire City of Salina increases in a measurable way. But for a great many people the true richness of that contribution to our community goes largely unrecognized. In order to address that shortcoming, KWU Communications Major Tyler “King” Fanene has embarked on a project to interview as many of his fellow Polynesian students as possible.
Fanene himself is from Arizona, but is proud of his Samoan heritage. And in order to both celebrate and share his Islander culture and heritage, he decided that educating as many people as possible about the diversity and richness found in his fellow Polynesian students was an important way to begin exercising. his skills in media production.
His first sit-down field interview took place with fellow Communications major Sisipako Vehikite, a Baseball player and fellow Comm major. You can watch the interview below:
