Coyote soccer falls in top ranked Matches

Women fall to NO. 7 Eagles

The KWU women’s soccer team faced No. 7-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan and fought hard but ultimately fell 2-0.

From the opening whistle the Coyotes pressed, showing energy and urgency, but OKWU proved difficult to crack. The two-goal margin may not tell the full story of KWU’s effort. While they didn’t manage to put one in the back of the net, they created chances, tested the defense, and kept the pressure on.

For KWU, moments of promise came—exploring wide areas, trying combinations in the attacking third—but OKWU’s defense held firm, and the Coyotes couldn’t convert their momentum. The Eagles scored their goals at the key moments and then managed the game’s tempo to protect the lead.

While the scoreboard wasn’t in KWU’s favor, the performance gave plenty of positives to build on. The work rate, the tactical discipline, and the willingness to compete against a top-ten opponent all show promise for the remainder of the season.

Men’s Match: Near Upset, Narrow Loss

On the men’s side, the Coyotes again took on OKWU—this time the top-ranked squad. KWU came out strong, took a lead, and then held on for much of the first half. They looked poised to pull off an upset.

Game flow

  • KWU opened the scoring when Vincent Pertusot delivered a throw-in from the left sideline. Skyler Denny headed it to Brennen Lamont, who finished with a near-post header past OKWU’s keeper, Marko Rodic.

  • KWU held the 1-0 lead until around the 40th minute when OKWU broke through on a loose play in front of goal: Biel Campo scored off an assist from Vitor Meirinho.

  • At halftime the score was tied 1-1. From there, the game shifted—though full statistical detail beyond that is not provided in the KWU recap, it’s clear that OKWU managed to edge the rest of the match despite KWU’s valiant fight.

Takeaways

The men’s squad showed tremendous character. To score first against the nation’s top-ranked team is a significant achievement, and to hold the lead against such a potent opponent highlights both the setup and the mindset. While the final result wasn’t in their favor, this match offers a benchmark for what the program is capable of.
