New Graduates Face New Stress. Learn How to Cope!

From College Student To The Real World
The final exams are turned in, and the semester is over. You may have walked across the stage and gotten that degree that you have been chasing for the past few years. Up next, summer. Now you’re about to be thrown into the real world, you may be wondering one thing: now what? What do I do after college? What job do I want to apply for? Where do I want to live, or even what do I want to do with my life?
What Do I Do Now?????
Trust me, I am in the same boat. I recently graduated from KWU after 3 years, and I have zero clue what to do with anything. I barely know what I am doing next week, let alone for the rest of my life. However, there is one thing that everyone, myself included, who has graduated
this year needs to do before we dive into the real world. We need to decompress.
Graduating from college may be one of the most stressful times of one’s life. But once it’s finally done, a big relief has been lifted off your shoulders. At least for me, my brain is still in overdrive and used to the chaotic, unsustainable schedule I had during finals and graduation season. Therefore, it’s important to take time for yourself. It does not matter whether it is for a few days, a few weeks, or the rest of the summer. All that matters is that you take time to reset your mind and body after the chaos, back to normal.
Ways to Reset This Post-Grad Summer
If you feel stuck on how to do that, here are some ideas below:
- Take a deep breath and realize you have just accomplished something incredible. Be proud of all that you have done to get to this point.
- Spend time doing something you love. Whether that is working out, eating at your favorite restaurant, going on a hike, reading a book, or whatever, do something low-key that you love.
- Start a new hobby and get outside of your comfort zone.
- Don’t focus solely on the future; stay in the present so you can enjoy your downtime after one of the most stressful times of your life.
- Cross something off your bucket list. If there is something you have been wanting to do but haven’t had time for, now is the time to do it.
- Have faith. Trust that this post-grad journey will be long but fruitful in the long run.
Life after graduation is scary, but that is okay. It is good to have a plan for what you want to do with your life but also make time for yourself. For more on post-grad decompression ideas, visit the links below:
