Coyote Classic

The Kansas Wesleyan Women’s Volleyball Coyote Classic kicks off the home opener for both the Varsity and the Developmental teams. Marking success for teams and individual players, after both teams kicked off their seasons away.

Varsity played in San Antonio, TX, for the OLLU Halo Classic, leaving with a 3-2 record. Developmental in Ark City, KS, Cowely Community College left with a record of 0-1.

On Friday, August 28th, at 6 pm CST, the Varsity team opened the tournament by sweeping Stephens University in three sets (25-17, 26-24, 25-11). The following day, the tournament started back up at 9 am, but we didn’t get to see our Coyotes play until later in the day. Development scheduled to play at 1 pm CST and Varsity at 3 pm CST.

The Developmental Team faced off against Stephens University, defeating them in two sets. Exciting for the team after a rough start to the season. Spirits are high going into the Ottawa tournament on August 31st.

The Women’s Varsity team faced off with Oklahoma City University, losing in four sets(24-26, 16-25, 25-18, 24-26). Although the Women’s Varsity ended the classic with a loss, they didn’t go out without a fight, especially from standout transfer Ivi Marcolino.

KILLS: Ivi Marcolino – 26 K

ASSISTS: Blair Pennington – 42 AST

DIGS: Tristyn Hedman – 16 DIG

The transfer Junior from Brazil had 26 kills in the match. Totaling her at 128 kills in the first 7 matches of the season, with a career high of 27 in the match against USAO in San Antonio, TX, while at KWU. 

A quote from Marcolino: “I knew I was doing well throughout the game, but with the outcome of losing, I didn’t think I played overall as well as I could’ve. I wasn’t told until the next day. Now that I know, it makes me feel more confident and reassured in myself as a player.”

“I love being a part of this team where I feel loved on and on the court, which is amazing; even when we lose, our spirits can still be high and hopeful for the rest of the season.”

Marcolino is rising as a key component of the Coyote Women’s Volleyball Team, and many are wondering what else she can accomplish this season…

From this weekend, Coach Aubrey Wilson’s overview: “This weekend, we held the Coyote Classic and brought a bunch of different talent into our gym. We had great support and were lucky enough to have both of our teams represent us on Saturday. Tournaments are always fun, and it was nice to be able to host one.”
