Students Turn to Two-Wheel Travel for Convenience and Affordability

Motorcycles have become an increasingly common form of alternative transportation at Kansas Wesleyan University. Aiden Henderson: Riding as Family Bonding and Campus Efficiency

Aiden Henderson, a KWU baseball player, said he began riding three years ago to bond with his father. He enjoys the freedom of maneuvering around campus and appreciates the designated motorcycle parking near his classes. Henderson said he feels safe riding in town due to slower speed limits and consistent police presence.

Alex Spencer: Saving Money and Maximizing Transportation Options

Alex Spencer, a recent KWU graduate now in the police academy, said affordability was the biggest reason he chose a motorcycle over a car. Rising gas prices made riding a cost‑saving option, allowing him to invest in academy expenses. Spencer said owning a motorcycle let him maintain a cheaper car while still having a reliable second vehicle.

Professor Hughes: Convenience and Parking Ease on a Moped

KWU professor Mrs. Hughes rides a moped on campus and said it helps her travel quickly between buildings. She said parking is easier with a moped, though weather can make riding difficult. Despite challenges, she recommends mopeds to students because they are inexpensive to operate and enjoyable to ride.

A Niche but Meaningful Part of Campus Life

 Motorcycles remain a small but distinct part of transportation at KWU. For some riders, they offer practicality and savings; for others, they provide enjoyment and connection.
