A Day to Recognize the Senior Class
The Kansas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team celebrated Senior Day with a 4-0 win over Southwestern College on Saturday. The Coyotes kicked off at 1 p.m. and finished the game with a shutout before honoring nine seniors during a postgame ceremony.
Talia Walsh, Brooklyn Velotta, Ameera Al-Maksosi and Abby Perez each scored a goal to help Kansas Wesleyan earn the victory. The win made the day even more special as the team celebrated the seniors and their contributions to the program.
The seniors recognized were Carstyn Anderson, Kylie Pappo, Rylie Moreno-Rojas, Talia Walsh, Lexi Jack, Ashlynn Adcock, Ameera Al-Maksosi, Ally Taylor and Tori Poon. Each player has had a different journey at KWU, but they all share the experience of being part of the same team and representing the Coyotes throughout their college careers.
Senior Day is an important moment for college athletes because it gives them a chance to look back on their time with the team. From practices and games to traveling together and building friendships, these experiences become a big part of the college experience. The ceremony was an opportunity to recognize the seniors for everything they have given to the program.
Seniors Who Made an Impact on the Field
Carstyn Anderson, a pre-Physical Therapy major, has been a team captain for the past three seasons. After redshirting her first year, she has missed only one match throughout her collegiate career. Her leadership and consistency have made her an important part of the team. Although she was recognized on Senior Day, Anderson will return to KWU for her super senior season.
Rylie Moreno-Rojas is on the pre-med track and plans to attend medical school after graduation. She has appeared in all but three matches during her college career and earned All-Conference honors last season. Her commitment to soccer and her education shows the hard work it takes to balance athletics with academic goals.
Ally Taylor, an Elementary Education major, started her career at KWU as a three-sport athlete. She is consistently one of the team’s top performers in fitness testing and brings a strong work ethic to practices and games. Her dedication has made her an important part of the program throughout her time with the Coyotes.
Working Toward Their Academic Goals
Ashlynn Adcock and Ameera Al-Maksosi are both completing their undergraduate degrees in business. Adcock is from Buhler, Kansas, and will graduate in just three years. Her hard work, leadership and contributions have made a difference in the program both on and off the field.
Al-Maksosi has also shown dedication to balancing her responsibilities as a student and an athlete. The energy she brings to the team and the effort she has put into her college career have made her an important part of the Coyotes.
Talia Walsh decided to return for another season after earning her degree in Sport Management last year. She is now working toward her Master of Business Administration while continuing to play soccer. Her decision to keep challenging herself academically while remaining part of the team shows her commitment to growing both as a student and an athlete.
Three Seniors Balancing Nursing and Soccer
Lexi Jack, Tori Poon and Kylie Pappo are all nursing majors. Their college experience has required them to balance demanding classes, clinicals and soccer practices. Managing all these responsibilities is not always easy, especially when they have to move from one commitment to another throughout the day.
Their dedication to both nursing and soccer shows how much time and effort they have put into their college careers. Being a student-athlete requires good time management and discipline, and these three seniors have worked hard to keep up with the demands of both.
As they prepare for the next chapter of their lives, the skills and experiences they have gained at KWU will be important as they continue working toward their careers in nursing.
A Lasting Impact on the Coyote Program
Although the nine seniors have different majors and future plans, they share the experience of being part of the KWU women’s soccer program. Their time with the team has included practices, games, challenges and moments that have helped them grow as players and individuals.
Senior Day is also a chance to recognize the relationships built throughout the years. Teammates spend a lot of time together, both on and off the field, and those experiences can create friendships that last beyond college. The ceremony gave the team, coaches, families and friends an opportunity to celebrate the seniors and everything they have accomplished.
The seniors have also had the opportunity to influence the younger players on the team. Through their dedication, leadership and work ethic, they can set an example for the players who will continue the program in the coming seasons.
Looking Ahead
The game against Southwestern College was an important part of the day, but the celebration afterward gave the Coyotes a chance to focus on the nine players being honored.
For Carstyn, Kylie, Rylie, Talia, Lexi, Ashlynn, Ameera, Ally and Tori, Senior Day was a moment to recognize everything they have worked for during their time at Kansas Wesleyan.
As the seniors look toward their futures, they will take with them the experiences, friendships and lessons they gained through college soccer. Their time at KWU has been about more than playing the game. It has also been about working toward their goals, supporting their teammates and making memories along the way.
Saturday’s ceremony celebrated nine student-athletes who have each played a part in the KWU women’s soccer program. With a 4-0 win over Southwestern College, the Coyotes had even more reason to celebrate a memorable Senior Day.
