The Den

What if your Sunday night didn’t have to be boring?

Starting this semester, students at Kansas Wesleyan University have a new place to spend their Sunday evenings.

The Den will be open every Sunday from 5–7 p.m.

The Den is a small food and coffee shop inside the Student Activities Center, also known as the SAC. It is located right next to the beach volleyball and pickle-ball courts.

That means students can grab a coffee or some food. Then, they can head outside to play.

A New Place to Hang Out

Sunday nights can be pretty slow on campus.

The weekend is almost over. Monday classes are coming up. Many students spend the evening in their rooms or doing homework. The Den is giving students another option.

Students can come to the SAC with their friends. They can grab something to eat. They can get a coffee. They can play pickle-ball or beach volleyball. They can also just sit around and talk.

“I think having The Den open on Sundays will give students something fun to do instead of just staying in their rooms,” said one student.

The goal is simple. Give students a place to hang out and enjoy their Sunday night.

Grab Food or Fun Drinks

The Den is more than just a place to get a quick snack. It can also be a place to meet up with friends. Students can stop by before playing volleyball. They can come in after a game of pickle-ball. They can also visit The Den just to relax.

Maybe you want a fun drink while talking with your friends. Maybe you are hungry after playing outside. Either way, The Den is right there. The location makes it easy.

Beach Volleyball and Pickle-ball

The beach volleyball and pickle-ball courts are located right outside the SAC.

This gives students plenty of ways to spend their evening. Beach volleyball is a great option for students who want to be active. Friends can make teams and play against each other. The games can be competitive, but they do not have to be.

Sometimes, it is more about having fun. Pickle-ball is another option. Students can play with people they already know. They can also meet new people while playing.

Never played before? That is okay. Sunday evenings at The Den can be a good time to learn.

More People Around the Den

One of the biggest changes could be seeing more students around The Den.

The SAC can become a place where students actually want to spend their Sunday evening. Friends can meet up. Games can start outside. People can come in and out of The Den for food and coffee. It can feel more lively.

It can also be a great way to meet people. College can make it difficult to meet new friends. Everyone has different classes, practices, jobs, and schedules. Having a regular place to hang out can make that easier.

“I think it’d be cool to have somewhere to go on Sunday nights, especially if you can grab food and hang out with your friends,” said another student.

A Break Before Monday

Sunday is usually the day when students start thinking about the week ahead. For example, you might be homework to finish. There might be laundry to do. Or even have an early class the next morning.

That does not mean the whole night has to be spent working. The Den can give students a chance to take a break.

Students can spend an hour playing beach volleyball. They can play a quick game of pickleball. They can grab food. They can sit with friends and talk. There are plenty of ways to spend the evening.

Making Sundays More Fun

The Den opening on Sundays is a small change. However, it could make a big difference for students.

This gives students another place to go. It brings more people into the SAC. Creating more opportunities to hang out. Most importantly, it gives students something to do together.

Whether you are there for the food, the coffee, beach volleyball, pickleball, or simply your friends, The Den has something to offer. So, if you are looking for something to do on Sunday night, head over to the SAC.

Grab a coffee. Get some food. Play a game. Bring your friends.
