A Weather Delay Game Day leads to Big Win

Weather Delay Game Day – Family Weekend
In a series of chaotic events, the 2026 family weekend will surely be one to remember. College game day kickoff for the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyote Football scheduled to start at 5 p.m. but ended up starting at 9 p.m. After a four-hour weather delay on September 19th. In rain or shine, day or night, the Yotes take on Bethel College Threshers.
Back at the start of game day is the tailgate. The blazing heat was predominant, but everyone was excited for the game, good food, and an amazing experience. Smiles and good company filled the space before kickoff. A little sprinkle of rain barely foreshadowed what was to come.
As clouds were rolling in close to kickoff, there was still hope for a smooth football game. Sadly, after announcing lineups and before the coin flip, lightning struck, causing a weather delay. Lightning was striking constantly, leading to a fan advisory to seek shelter for safety. And the staff to take shelter under the president’s pavilion and the press box. Witnessing a close strike hit one of the light posts on the far side, away from the press box, causing sparks to fly. Then the fall of the extreme downpour caused absolute chaos. At one point, the wind became a big factor, pushing the rain at an angle. Student and staff made efforts to recover or cover the video devices before the heart of the storm came.
The Aftermath
Luckily, everyone ended up okay, pretty wet, but now everyone waited for the aftereffects of the storm. At one point, a rainbow could be seen, hopefully signifying that the kickoff could start soon.
Unfortunately lighting kept striking within the eight-mile radius, causing the 30-minute weather delay to increase. Events like the halftime show with the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes Dance team were able to move to Mabee Arena starting at 7 p.m. (Two hours into the weather delay).
After the performance, fans finally went back outside, but unfortunately, 30 minutes later, the game was announced that it would resume play at the earliest at 9 o’clock
Finally, when 9 o’clock struck the clock and the game was ready to be played! The turnout of fans to come back to watch the game was surprisingly high after a long delay.
The Yotes dominated the Threshers in the first half of the game, with the halftime score being 37-7. Due to the late-night game, a decision made by both coaches was that there was no halftime. Throughout the continuation of the game, the Yotes never really let up in the second half. The final score of the game was 67-17. Coyote wins!
Through all the Weather, the Coyotes provided a game worth watching
Even if it was a blowout game, the Yotes made some amazing plays. A hurdle run play by Caleb Deal(#6, Quarterback): “Caleb Deal goes airborne!”
A snag by Max Wilson(#17, Wide Receiver): “A one-handed snag on the far side! Max Wilson! An acrobatic catch and a run to the end zone, 49 yards!” ”The catch of the season for Max Wilson.”
Tackle for loss punt coverage on a fake punt play, pushing the Threshers back into the end zone for a safety by Miles Elam(#5, Linebacker): “They might not make it out of the end zone! And it is taken down in the end zone! It is Miles Elam!
The Coyotes have yet to disappoint at home, continuing their winning streak to now three games. Their previous wins were from the Bethany home game and their last weekend road game against Avila that went into overtime.
