Five Students Compete and Deliver Impressive Musical Performances

The Multi-Cultural Student Union (MCSU) transported the campus back to the 2000’s last Friday. On November 7th at 7:00 PM, the MCSU hosted its annual talent show in Fitzpatrick Auditorium. This event featured a fun 2000’s theme. The energy was high as the small group of five talented students prepared to compete. Despite the low number of contestants, the show delivered high-impact performances that captivated the audience all evening. The judges certainly faced a difficult job picking the winners from such a strong lineup.

The event created an electric, nostalgic atmosphere. Students dressed up in popular 2000’s fashion, and music from the decade set a fun, energetic mood. Initially, the event focused on building community, but the quality of the acts quickly turned the night into a serious showcase of musical talent. Each contestant only had a few minutes on stage. However, they maximized every second to make a powerful impression.

As a fun break a karaoke intermission was held halfway through the event. The hosts, Vice President Isabella Myers and club member Ania Bonner, invited people from the crowd to sing their favorite 2000’s hits. Consequently, many students participated, grabbing the microphone and putting on impromptu performances. This casual segment kept the energy up and turned the crowd into performers, building a strong sense of community before the next round of contestants.

The Winning Lineup

The evening spotlighted three standout acts whose skill and stage presence earned them the top honors. First, the hosts announced the third-place winner.

Third Place: Sydney Mitchell

The evening celebrated Sydney Mitchell with the third-place prize. Mitchell performed a rendition of “Breakeven” by The Script. Her vocals were strong and clear, connecting immediately with the audience. Furthermore, she sang with confidence, making her performance feel professional and well-rehearsed. Her ability to own the stage earned enthusiastic applause and cheers from the crowd.

Second Place: Tamia Cheeks

Next, the hosts announced the second-place winner. Tamia Cheeks impressed everyone with a passionate gospel performance. Cheeks sang an acapella version of the inspiring song “Because of Who You Are,” filling the auditorium with her powerful voice. Meanwhile, the audience shared enthusiastic cheers and support as she performed. Her performance stood out as one of the night’s most heartfelt acts.

First Place: Jaq’Son Birdwhwistle-Bush

Finally, the top spot went to Jaq’Son Birdwhwistle-Bush. Birdwhwistle-Bush secured first place with a soulful and skilled performance. He sang and played the guitar to the popular R&B hit “Best Part” by H.E.R. The crowd praised and cheered the talent Birdwhwistle-Bush showed while managing vocals and the guitar. Therefore, the combination of his musical skill and charismatic stage presence made him the clear champion of the night.

A Night of Nostalgia and Fun

In summary, the MCSU talent show successfully provided a dynamic platform for student artists. The five contestants truly showcased the strong talents present at KWU. Above all, the 2000’s theme helped the event become a fun and memorable night for the entire campus community. The event had a good crowd turnout and a night of fun. The MCSU looks forward to hosting talent shows every year.
