Finding Your Purpose (Determination)

Written by on September 14, 2026

Saying Yes is the first part then it turns into doing something about it.

The human mind is a gateway to possibility but nobody ever reaches the true potential into what it’s capable of. It’s not that we aren’t capable of reaching it but the fact that we don’t even know we can. Taking a look into David Goggins he created The 40% Rule. This suggests that we only use 40 % of our mind when stuff gets hard. Running long distance, writing a paper, your newborn crying at 2 am in the morning. Even when we think we have used all of our brain power mentally we’ve barely even tapped in.

So everyone can talk about this 40% Rule and doing unimaginable hard things in life and write about it. How does it work in a real life scenario. This is where determination kicks in. You have to be determined to see something and do something about. You have to be determined to achieve a goal in life. You have to be DETERMINED to find a challenge in life that will make you better as a person.

I’ve recently ran a trail marathon in Santa Cruz, California. 4,000 feet of elevation, 26.2 miles, Santa Cruz sun beaming on you, and by the way my first race and marathon ever. I went into it with an open mind and not only that but determined to show people I can tap into that 60% of my mind that we don’t even know we have. After I passed the 10 mile mark I felt great. My first marathon and not only that but it being on a trail was already daunting enough and I was flying. By the 20 mile mark my body gave out. Even though I planned great for my body the couple days before my legs had nothing left. As I was walking up the steepest hill on the course that’s when it hit me of that 40% rule. I had to find a way to trick my mind into thinking pain was the least of my worries and be determined to finish.

I crossed the finish line with a time of 5:07:23 and didn’t know it but finished 4th out of 60 marathoners and first in my age group. I put my head down and was determined to fight through the negative thoughts. The thoughts that tell you to quit. The thoughts that tell you thought this is too hard so you should just walk. Being determined is more than just putting your head down and saying yes but also channelling those negative thoughts that go through your brain when stuff gets hard.
