How To Make An Easy Grilled Cheese
Written by Magen Dow on September 14, 2026
One skill everybody should have is making a good grilled cheese. It’s a classic, nostalgic staple of most people’s childhoods, or at least mine.
Over the years, I have perfected my grilled cheese recipe (it’s legit cheese, bread, and butter, but trust me, it’s good), so here’s how I make my simple grilled cheese and what ingredients I use.
Ingredients:
- Bread (I use either sourdough or buttered bread)
- Butter
- Cheeses (Sharp cheddar and mozzarella)
Items needed
- Pan
- Spatula
- Stove
- Pan lid
- Grate enough sharp cheddar and mozzarella cheese for your sandwich (I found that my sandwiches taste better with hand-grated cheese, and it just melts more easily)
- Turn on your stove to medium/low heat and put the pan on the stove
- Put some butter in the pan and let it melt
- Put both slices of bread into the pan and make sure to coat both sides of each piece of bread with the melted butter
- Spread a mixture of the sharp cheddar and mozzarella cheese on one side of the bread
- Take the other piece of bread and put it on top of the other piece of bread and press down with the spatula
- Put the pan lid on and let it simmer
- Once you see the cheese melt and one side is golden brown, flip it and let the other side cook
- Once both sides are golden brown, take out the grilled cheese
- If the grilled cheese has a pretty solid cheese pull, congrats, you made a perfect grilled cheese!
