The Smoky Hill Independent Film and Television Festival was created to celebrate, highlight and promote the creative talent of visual arts and motion-picture producers in Kansas.
SHIFT is composed of several components, the first of which is educational. Attendees are guaranteed a learning experience in the melded art and science of multimedia production, with a seminar, panel or
hands-on demonstration experience provided by a Kansan practicing in the field.
The second is the competitive Six-Hour, Sixty Second Media Challenge. Participants are given six hours to create the best sixty-second example of media according to thematic guidelines which are released the
morning of the event.
Every other year, SHIFT hosts a larger festival, complete with vendor tables, a wide array of media screenings and special guests and presentations over the course of two days.
The next SHIFT happens in November of 2018, with the larger festival scheduled for October of 2019.
