Match Overview 

On August 23rd, The KWU Coyotes faced off against College of the Bible in a thrilling season opener. The match ended with a final score of KWU Coyotes 7-0 College of the Bible, leaving fans on the edge of their seats. This was a great start to the season that will set the tone for the remaining matches. 

 

First Half Summary 

Momentum was slow in the first half but picked up which resulted in one goal from Noel Zimbeva. He had a direct kick after a foul that hit inside the post and the far side of the goal which put the Coyotes up 1-0 in the 29th minute. Wesleyan had plenty of other opportunities in the first half but did not adapt. 

 

Second Half Summary

The second half, however, is a different story. As the clock ticked down, both teams pushed for a goal. But it was KWU who found the net, slotting the ball past the keeper. During the 63rd minute, Seth Flores set the tone with a goal that started a strike sequence for KWU. Energy enhanced as it led to the next four goals in only 6 minutes. 

 

Key Moments

The next four consecutive goals were scored by Mateo Hoyos in the second half. His first was during the 66th minute off of an assist from Brennen Lamont. Hoyos scored again not even 2 minutes later, this time on a breakaway shot and goal to make the score 4-0. All in flow, Hoyos got yet another goal exactly a minute later tracking the ball down the center and finishing. After much more action, Hoyos got his final goal of the day at the 76th minute, putting KWU in a 6-0 lead. The final whistle was met with mixed emotions, as both teams had their chances to claim victory but ultimately shared the spoils in a match that delivered on its promise of excitement

 

One More Time

 Quatama Massaquoi, played football for the Coyotes his first two seasons, scored a goal of his own in the 82nd minute. Finishing with a hard left foot right in front of the goal off of an assist on the left side by Flores. Wesleyan controlled the match from start to finish, ending it with an inspiring drive. The Coyotes will be back in action next Saturday hosting the Central Methodist Eagles at 10:30 a.m. at JRI Stadium. From the Players

Alexander Gardiner, from Atlanta, Georgia states, “A big highlight for me was winning the first game of the season. I feel like I fit in with the team pretty well, and I was happy to see a lot of what we practiced show up in the game.” Alexander is a freshman and is majoring in business, and is definitely a player to watch in the upcoming matches. Another spotlight is Mateo Hoyos. Hoyos is a senior this year from Medellin, Columbia, and is majoring in business management. He says, “This team has great personalities and zero egos. It was a great game, helped us get some confidence to start the season, but there’s more work to do.” Hoyos scored 4 goals in the first game of the season which really set the tone. 

 

 In a match filled with intensity, the KWU Coyotes emerged victorious, showcasing their championship potential. As the season continues, fans can expect more thrilling encounters, and this match serves as a powerful reminder of the passion and unpredictability that make soccer truly special.
