Students Have a Blast at Grocery BINGO!

BINGO
Last Friday, Kansas Wesleyan University hosted its very own “Grocery Market Bingo Night” in the Peter Science Hall. The concept of this event was to give students an opportunity to win snacks and items that they would normally have on their shopping list from playing bingo.
Playing bingo would usually be a boring activity to a college student, but it seemed that the idea of getting any kind of food or snacks seemed to attract a few people as almost the entire room was filled. As college students, sometimes money and shopping for things can be a difficult bridge to cross so the idea of getting those items for free was an absolute no brainer.
Rules of the game

As mentioned, Grocery Bingo Night took place in Peter Science Hall, specifically in room 201. Room 201 of PSH is a massive lecture room and the largest one on campus. This was obviously the best choice as almost the entire middle row was filled with students looking to stock up their dorm rooms.
The rules of the game are very simple; each person is allowed two bingo cards. There are five rows on the card, each one for the number of letters in the word “BINGO.” The caller will call out a letter followed by a random number. If you have a number that falls under the row of the letter called, you can move the slider over it to fill a space.
If you get five spaces in a row whether it be horizontal, vertical, or diagonal, you can yell “BINGO” and go down and pick a grocery item of your choice. It was a fun experience as everyone had a decently fair chance to win since they had 2 bingo cards.
Variations of the game

As time went on and a few students began winning games, the caller decided to introduce different variations on how bingo could be played. Some of the variations were four corners, X, and blackout. Most of them were self-explanatory.
Four corners meant you had to have the letter and numbers of each corner of your card. X required you to have your squares filled to create an “X” across your bingo card. And in blackout, you are required to have every number across your bingo card called before you can win anything.
These variations of games obviously take a little longer to complete than a regular BINGO game, making the chances of winning slightly lower and the stakes higher. Check here on some of the interesting ways you can play bingo.
The Groceries

Levi Mies
There was a wide variety of groceries to choose from once you won a game and students had a fun time choosing. With packs of Gatorade, chips, cookies, laundry detergent, Rice Krispies treats, and so much more.
There were also many winners and losers that either walked away with a prize or nothing at all. Freshman Levi Mies was able to score himself a box of Rice Krispies treats and told us how he felt about it.
“I won one BINGO, and I’m happy with the prize; winning something is winning something,” Mies said.
He also mentioned the positive energy he felt while playing, “It was a great time, and the energy was high with everybody here. Marv (Marvin Mitchell) was a great host, and I think everyone had fun.”
The night ended with everyone heading home with their prizes, and even for those who may not have won, it was still a memorable experience for all students who participated.
Kansas Wesleyan University has always done an amazing job of taking care of its students. In the past these BINGO games have been a staple event for students. There is no doubt they will continue these events in the future!
