The Kansas Wesleyan Men’s Soccer team took on some KCAC matchups this week. The first was on Tuesday against Tabor. A preview of this year’s team can be found here: Fall sports preview: Coyotes ready to get rolling (kwustudentmedia.com)

There was not much action in the first half. Both teams were passing a lot and playing good defense. These teams had not yet squared off this year so that can be chalked up to the teams getting a feel for their new opponents.

Both teams were getting off shots but in the 35th minute a foul occurred in the penalty area and the penalty kick was converted by Tabor’s Eric Brown to them a give 1-0 lead.

The Coyote offense came out hot in the second half and in the 64th Abanya Nundu tied up the score with a goal assisted by Eduardo Flores. It only took the Coyotes 12 more minutes to take the lead, in the 76th minute Kamille Kum made an ESPN top 10 worthy bicycle kick straight into the back of the net. The goal was assisted by Jesus Genaro Macias.

There was no more scoring after that as the Coyotes won 2-1. Mateus Alves Lopes Da Silva was the winning goalie with three saves. “The boys played well for most of the game, Of course, as a young team, we made a few mistakes, but the come-from-behind victory helped us grow as a group”, said Coach Bruce Palmbaum.

On Saturday the Coyotes matched up against Saint Mary’s.

The Coyote offense wasted no time in the early going with their first goal in the 14th minute by Kamille Kum who was assisted by Noel Zimbeva. The Coyotes furthered their lead in the 23rd minute when Abenya Nundu converted a penalty kick off a Saint Mary’s foul.

However, it did not take Saint Marys long to respond as in the 25th minute they got on the board with a goal from Romario Harding. Scoring halted for a while, but in the 61st minute Saint Mary tied it up when a penalty shot was blocked by Mateus Da Silva but the ball went right to Abdul Omar who punched it in.

The Coyotes were able to get off several more shots but couldn’t find the net. The match ended in a 2-2 draw. “We will grow as a team and hopefully connect the dots and finish our chances”, said Coach Palmbaum.

That brought the Coyotes record for the week to 1-0-1. The overall record for the Coyotes stands at 7-3-1. The next match up for the Coyotes will be on the road vs Avila on Saturday October 7th.
