KWU SGA = Positive Change
Written by Magen Dow on September 1, 2025
For things to improve, change is necessary. To create change, especially in certain places like a college campus, it starts with the students. Here at Kansas Wesleyan University, there is an organization that meets every third Thursday of the month, known as the KWU Student Government Organization (SGA). The officers consist of President Zachary Daley, Vice President Madelene McVey, Treasurer Ryann Warren, and Secretary Ava Siebert. The link below leads to an article where you can learn about the previous SGA president and class presidents.

SGA
Having a student government in a college is very significant in not only the ability for students’ voices to be heard, but also a college’s success as a whole. In the official SGA Constitution, it states, “The purpose of Student Government… is to involve and integrate students into the operations and ongoing development of policies, activities, and governance…”
The first SGA meeting of the year happened last Thursday on August 28th. Here are some of the cabinet members explanations to what SGA is for Kansas Wesleyan.
Meet the cabinet
Vice President Madelene McVey gave a rundown on what KWU SGA is and what the organization does,
“SGA is the Student Government Association. It’s an opportunity for people across campus to come to meetings and have a voice on the campus. You can bring up any issues or anything you want to happen or change. Students are able to come to these meetings and request these changes, and the student government, or SGA, is able to push those opinions to the higher-ups.”
To explain what SGA’s goals are and what it is trying to be accomplish this year, SGA President Zachary Daley wisely explained it, saying,
“My main goals as the SGA president this year are to get as many people involved as possible, have great conversations in the meetings, and make the change that the students want. I want to be the voice of the student body…Even though I’m one guy, I’d really like to make the biggest difference possible… It starts with the students. I want everybody’s voice to be heard, and this is the spot where it can be heard…”
When it comes to maintaining a healthy balance, especially in college, it can be difficult to obtain. SGA Treasurer Ryann Warren is a senior balancing a major in biomedical chemistry, being a student athlete on the women’s golf team at KWU, and the SGA Treasurer. Warren gave her secret recipe on how she can balance it all,
“For me, balancing between being a student athlete and then school and then SGA, I just have to stay pretty on top of things. I keep a planner that really helps me stay organized and then communicate effectively with my SGA team and my sponsor, and then all my teachers and my coaches make a really big impact.”
Get involved!
The KWU SGA is a great organization that puts the students first and has their best interests at heart. If you are thinking about going to an SGA meeting, do it. KWU SGA meets every third Thursday of each month at 8 pm. If you want to be a part of the change at KWU, it is time to join the KWU SGA.
