Senior Spotlight: Fernando Ruvalcaba

Key Player for the 2026 Season

As the spring baseball season approaches, KWU senior first baseman  is preparing to be a major contributor for the Coyotes once again. In 2025, he ranked among the team’s top hitters. The 6’6″ slugger recorded a .362 batting average, 1.180 OPS, and led the team with 18 home runs and 65 RBIs in 55 games. His standout performance earned him All-KCAC Third Team honors and confirmed his place as one of the conference’s top power hitters.

Academic Focus and Future Goals

Off the field, Ruvalcaba is a psychology major who will graduate this spring. He hopes to continue playing baseball at the next level. “I’d love to keep playing if an opportunity is out there,” he said. “Baseball has given me great experiences I will always value.”

Roots in California

Ruvalcaba grew up in Atwater, California, where his family still lives. After his baseball career, he plans to return home and work on his family’s sweet potato farm. “Working the land means a lot to me. My family’s business is important, and I take pride in it,” he said.

Looking Beyond the Game

Fernando often reflects on what life will look like after baseball. “It’s bittersweet knowing this could be my last year,” he said. “I’ve made lifelong friends because of this game, and it has always been a part of who I am.” He encourages athletes to find purpose outside of sports. “If you see yourself only as a baseball player, the end of your career will hurt more. You need passion outside the game.”

Favorite Memories with the Team

Some of Fernando’s favorite moments have come off the field. “I’ll always remember our team gatherings, hotel nights, and bus rides after big wins. Those were the moments I played for,” he said.

Looking Ahead to the New Season

The Coyotes open their 2026 season in Hobbs, New Mexico. The team aims to win another KCAC title and make a return trip to the NAIA World Series.
