Thursday January the 29th was the first SGA meeting of the semester, where Project Hero, farming program, SGA/Class Officer Elections, New coed dorms, Study Hall and Afternoon classes were mentioned.
Project hero and the farming program were mentioned briefly. Project hero is an annual event that provides an opportunity for activities and sports to volunteer in the community. The mention of project hero is to provide opportunities for clubs to sign up, if you are interested in participating in project hero, please reach out to a club, activity, or sport you are involved in. The farming program was also mentioned, to bring more awareness to this new opportunity, it was brought up within the meeting. The farming program is a full time job from March-September, 40 hours a week, but people can still be considered a student.
SGA and Class Officer elections are also coming up, now electing at the end of spring. Whoever is elected will come back with orientation leaders in the fall and get to know students better. More information is to follow with an email sent out from Student Development.
New co-ed dorms will also be implemented next school year in the Pfeiffer hall; this news was broken during the meeting. More information about how these dorms will be divided will be released later throughout this year, also by Student Development.
Open Forum
A topic that was brought up in an open forum was mandatory study hall. This year a new mandatory study hall was implemented for each sport and activity. It was brought up as an issue for sports that have a high GPA and don’t have anything productive to do during that time. People decided that it should change to depending on the coach or on the sport. People also brought up the idea of going back to the old study hall implementations. The past study hall regulations involved freshmen going the entire first semester, then continuing study hall in the future if there is a 3.2 GPA or under, according to members from the soccer team.

Another topic that was talked about was afternoon classes, in recent years, classes have been pushed out to later during the day. There has been more push for more classes in the afternoon, but this interferes with student athletes, working students, or students with internships in the afternoon.
Dr. Townsend said for classes most professors are willing to work with coaches to work around these new schedules, and have worked with coaches in the past for labs that can not take place in the morning. This topic will be looked further into and more information will come about what classes will be switched to the afternoon and what classes will be switched to the morning.
