The FCA hosts tailgate at rivalry game!

Last Wednesday, Kansas Wesleyan Baseball took on McPherson in a heated rivalry match at Dean Evans Stadium. Senior Shaw Lee pitched a complete game shutout giving the Coyotes an 8-0 win over the Bulldogs . It was a beautiful evening with a little bit of rainfall during the first three innings as the sun began to come out for the rest of the game. Despite the weather, there was work being done on and off the field as the folks at the FCA set up an in-stadium tailgate that lasted all 9 innings. There were hot dogs, burgers and drinks being served as there were plenty of student participants involved. But before we talk about the tailgate, let’s learn a little about the FCA.
The FCA

The FCA is a campus ministry group that stands for “Fellowship Cristain Athletes” as it is mostly a student lead group that hosts all kinds of events. According to the KWU Website “Yotes Alive Campus Ministries stands ready to offer ongoing support to sustain the spiritual vitality of our community…We partner deeply and intentionally within Student Development and local faith communities to maximize our resources and to truly engage in the life of the campus community.” The FCA in particular hosts monthly “Huddles” that meet the first Monday and Thursday of every month. These events often include games and an opportunity for students to connect over their love for religion.

The tailgate Wednesday night was no different, as they had cornhole boards out welcome to anyone who wanted to play. FCA also frequently gets these events sponsored, usually by Chick-fil-A, but instead they had Dairy Queen out supporting the game. Shelby Davidson of the volleyball team is an active member of FCA and had this to say about their tailgate, “We try to get as many people as we can involved and it’s really fun to do!
Not only do we have our monthly huddles but we have also done events on Valentines day, around Christmas, Easter, and many more.” There are many different reasons why students decide to get involved in FCA and they range from all kinds of different sports.
Colo Sanders of the football team commented on why he decided to get involved, “I decided to join FCA because I wanted to follow the lord and I felt it made sense to be somewhere where we could do it as a group…The event is a little tiring but its fun and I’m glad people are enjoying themselves and we were able to give back to the community a little bit.” Cole and his teammate Noah Hartwell will be speaking at the next FCA meeting and they both encourage people to come out and show their support!
As the school year comes to a close, the FCA will still be hosting plenty of events for students to attend. Whether it’s Baseball, Football, Christmas or Valentines day, the FCA will be active and promote their religious support no matter what!
