MCSU kicks off summer with a Field day!

Written by on May 5, 2026

Saturday Morning, the Multicultural Student Union hosted a summer-themed field day. Held on the Bevan Green lawn, where all students were free to attend. There was food, games, music, and much more. An overall great day for students to enjoy the beautiful weather before finals week.

Heated Kickball game

After food was served and enough students showed up, they were split into teams of 12 for a kickball game on the lawn.

The game was set to go to 21 points, and things got pretty heated. Both teams were at least 2 points within each other’s scores the entire time.

Every person got a chance to kick, and it was a great time. Where almost everyone got to run the bases as well. With plenty of work being done on defense, as well, since different players kicked different distances. There were people bunting, kicking in between players, and even booting the ball so far past the lawn that the outfielders were forced to sprint past the trees. People diving and stealing bases as well, a competitive game, but overall, a great time. In the end, Diego’s team won 22-21 in overtime.

Water balloon cool off

Plenty of people had loaded water guns as well. This made for a bit of an unfair advantage but ultimately didn’t matter as everyone got equally soaked. The water balloon fight lasted about a minute since there were only so many water balloons for about 20 to 30 people. Everybody was a good sport, and some found clever ways to avoid getting hit, whether it was hiding behind bushes or hiding behind other people.

Food and Spikeball

After everyone was soaked, they got to enjoy some burgers and hot dogs that were grilled outside with some Michael Jackson Group of people sitting and standing around round metal tables in a brick-paved campus courtyard on a sunny day, with trees and a blue sky in the background.music playing in the back. They also got to drink sodas and eat popsicles, which definitely hit the spot in the heated weather. This isn’t the first time MCSU has hosted an event like this. They are regular occurrences every few weeks. As mentioned above, CJ Buckhalter got to manage a kickball team but is also a member of the Multicultural Student Union. CJ had this to mention about his experience,

Group of students outdoors on a sunny campus lawn, gathered around white folding chairs with trees and a brick building in the background.“Being in MCSU is really fun, and it’s really easy. It only takes about 3 hours out of your day to host a fun event for everyone on campus, and that’s why I like doing it. We usually meet on Tuesdays to discuss our events and who will be responsible for what…Its almost always a great time.”

After food, things ended with a spikeball tournament between students. Just like kickball, things got very competitive, which is no surprise due to KWU’s athletic population. The Spikeball tournaments lasted about 20 minutes and a few students got some pretty impressive rallies going. After that, students were free to take home their food and popsicles and call it a day.

All in all, the Multicultural Student Union is basically a pro at hosting fun events for everyone on campus. They vary from all kinds of activities, like a talent show in November, a silent disco in October, and now the summer activities, which are perfect for this time of year.

MCSU has more events planned before the end of the year, and there is no doubt they will continue to bring students together on campus! More info about them can be found here.
