KWU Golf: New Season = Fresh Start
Written by Magen Dow on September 10, 2025
As summer fades away into the past and colder weather approaches, it is finally that time of year for fall sports here at Kansas Wesleyan University. The Kansas Wesleyan University men’s and women’s golf teams have just kicked off their first tournaments of the season. After the women’s team came off strong with their fourth conference championship in five years and the men’s team placed third at this past year’s conference, the team faced one of the biggest changes a team could undergo for the next year: a new coach.
Welcoming a New Coach
Now, it is a brand new season for the men’s and women’s golf teams, which means a new coach. A lot of the time, when a new coach comes in, there seems to be difficulty adjusting to their coaching style. However, that may not be the case here with new coach Jefferson Cook.
As the first tournaments of the fall season for the men’s and women’s teams conclude, there seems to be a newfound sense of camaraderie and success all around the team. When asked how he feels about starting out coaching the men’s and women’s golf teams at Kansas Wesleyan, Coach Jefferson Cook said,
“I’m very excited about coaching the KWU men’s and women’s golf programs this year… I’m just looking forward to really helping the players progress through the game of golf, but also just through the game of life.”
Gavin McWhorter returns for his second year as a graduate assistant, but previous KWU golfer Sarah Krenowicz hangs up her clubs and puts on her graduate assistant hat instead.
Krenowicz says the transition of,
“Going from a player to a coach honestly has been really enjoyable. Getting to coach the girls the last two days was the main reason why I wanted to become a graduate assistant… I am… very proud of them, and I will always be proud of them.”
Starting a New Season
On the guys’ side, the men’s team started the season with a seventh-place team finish with a final team two-round score of 571 at the UC Ferguson Classic Invitational hosted by Oklahoma City University. Junior Joey Wisocki led the team with a seventh-place 5-under par finish. Next up was The Mid-South hosted by Grand View University (Iowa), and finished in eleventh place with a team three-round score of 910. Junior Hank Reeg was the Coyote’s leader with a tied for fifteenth three-over-par finish.

Womens Golf Team
The girls’ team kicked off their season playing in the Lila Frommelt hosted by Briar Cliff University. The Lady Yotes finished strong with a fourth-place team finish. Senior Chaney Littell led the Lady Coyotes with a tied-for-sixth-place finish.
Now, with the first few tournaments out of the way, the KWU golf team looks ahead to see what the rest of the season holds.
