KWU Baseball Fall World Series
Over the past week, the
team wrapped up its fall season with the classic Fall World Series games. The coaching staff divided the program into two teams through a draft, and the squads competed in a best-of-five series to determine a winner. On one side, grad assistant and former player Eric Romero coached the purple team, while his opponent, assistant pitching coach Blake Maddock led the gold team.
Game 1
Team Maddock opened the series with a narrow 5–4 victory. Strong pitching performances propelled the gold team to the win. Notably, Logan Baptista threw seven impressive innings, putting his team in position for success. Additionally, the gold team delivered timely hits and took advantage of errors made by Romero’s purple squad.
Game 2
In the second game, both teams battled in a heavyweight offensive matchup as they collected multiple hits and home runs. Although the purple team secured a 12–9 win, the gold team showed resilience. However, their rally came too late, as they did not begin scoring until the seventh inning.
Game 3
The next day, Coach Romero’s purple team rallied to take the series lead in dominant fashion. The
purple squad came out swinging, putting up 10 runs in the first seven innings. Meanwhile, the gold team attempted a comeback, scoring seven runs in one inning and two more in the final frame. Ultimately, the rally fell short, and the purple team claimed another 12–9 victory, taking a 2–1 series lead.
Game 4
In Game Four, the purple team clinched the series win. The matchup featured a back-and-forth pitchers’ duel that came down to the final inning. There, purple team player Ryan Rodriguez delivered a huge pinch-hit that tied the game and ultimately gave his team the lead over the gold squad.
Overview
In the end, the Fall World Series revealed exactly what coaches hope to see from their ball club after a long fall season. Both teams showcased gritty, talented players. “I am super excited to see what we do this year,” multiple KWU players said. Senior Carter Allan added, “It sucks that I was on the losing end of this series, but I’m glad we’re all on the same team now.”
Looking ahead, the Coyotes’ 2026 season will begin in January when they travel to Hobbs, New Mexico, to face the University of the Southwest as they aim to repeat the success of their 2025 campaign.
