Kansas Wesleyan Falls to Nebraska Wesleyan and Central Methodist in Coyote Classic
Kansas Wesleyan University
opened the season with two losses at the Coyote Classic in Mabee Arena. Despite strong individual performances, the Coyotes couldn’t overcome slow starts and hot shooting from their opponents.
Game 1: Coyotes Lose 81-69 to Nebraska Wesleyan
In their season opener, Kansas Wesleyan fell 81-69 to Nebraska Wesleyan. The Prairie Wolves, a strong NCAA Division III program, shot 53% from the field and pulled away in the second half.
Caiden Punt led KWU with 23 points and 9 rebounds, while Brandon Avedon and Stefan Spray added 13 and 14 points, respectively. Despite a solid effort, the Coyotes struggled with their three-point shooting, making just 4 of 23 attempts.
Game 2: Coyotes Fall 82-70 to Central Methodist
On Saturday, the Coyotes dropped an 82-70 decision to Central Methodist. After a strong start, Kansas Wesleyan fell behind due to an 18-3 run by CMU. Although the Coyotes cut the lead to five in the second half, CMU’s offense, led by Isaiah Reams and Raphael Gay (54 combined points), proved too much to overcome.
Punt posted another double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Matthew Garber added 18 points. However, KWU struggled with turnovers and shooting, finishing at just 39.7% from the field.
Looking Ahead
Kansas Wesleyan (0-2) will try to bounce back next weekend at the Bethel College Classic. The Coyotes will face Peru State on Thursday and Hesston on Friday, with both games offering another chance to find their rhythm.
