Kansas Wesleyan University hosted a successful career and internship fair on Thursday, March 28th, in the Student Activities Center. The event was open to all KWU students and offered a valuable opportunity to connect with potential employers and explore career options.
Local businesses and organizations were well-represented at the fair, including Fili Creative, and Salina Fire Department. These events provide KWU students with a significant advantage by allowing them to network with professionals outside the university. Allowing them to gain valuable insight into the Salina community. Students came prepared, dressed in business casual attire and armed with their resumes, eager to make a good impression on potential employers. Many companies were actively recruiting for paid internships and jobs, offering a variety of opportunities for students across different fields.
Presenters
Catholic Charities, a local organization dedicated to helping those in need, highlighted volunteer opportunities for KWU students. Roles included assisting with food distribution and supporting expectant mothers. They also run a thrift shop with many positions available there.
The YMCA also participated in the fair, seeking both interns and full-time/part-time employees. Cherie Grigsby, HR and Training Director at the YMCA emphasized the Y’s commitment to community service in Salina. “The YMCA is the largest childcare provider in Salina,” Grigsby stated, “offering afterschool programs, daycare, and summer programs to support working parents.”

Impact
The KWU Career Fair proved to be a resounding success. Connecting students with businesses and fostering a sense of excitement for their futures. From securing summer jobs to exploring internship opportunities and volunteer work, the fair provided a valuable springboard for students like Reese Kimmi and Cynder Toman. Kimmi, a freshman Criminal Justice and Sociology major was looking for a job that would accommodate her busy schedule during the school year. This fair provided the opportunity for Kimmi to find jobs and internships for her interests. Cynder Toman, a sophomore Music Education major found this gave her the chance to find local volunteer opportunities and internships that can grow her as an employee.
These events bridge the gap between academics and the professional world. As students gain experience and build their networks, the KWU Career Fair has undoubtedly played a significant role in propelling them toward a bright future.
